La de da

I just thought I would do a quick post to give all of you an update on things:

1) I found a place to live on the weekend. I took the Market house. It is expensive, but hey, it is a place to live for 2 1/2 months. I have yet to meet my roommate, but I am sure he will be evil...I have seen those teen/college movies...they always turn out to be whack-jobs.

2)I bought my bus ticket to Toronto for the 26th of October. That was expensive too...hmmm...see a trend?

3)Also, I got my R.E.M tickets for the show on November 11th at the Ottawa Civic Centre...=...more money.

4) Tomorrow and Wednesday I am going to be attending a RMT workshop (Risk Management Tools). That should be really neat. Then, tomorrow night, I am going out with some big wigs, which is a great time to meet some kick ass contacts...swish.

5) I am going to apply for class 9 bankruptcy this week to compensate for my loses, I feel that is the best way.

6) That is about it, enjoy the next couple of days, I will probably post on Friday before I move into my new place on Saturday.

Changes, etc

You may have noticed the page looks a bit different now. I felt that change needed to be had. I think this is a little more retro, although, it might take frequent visitors a little time to adapt.

Good news: Matt Good is coming to Ottawa Capital City Music Hall October 25th! This leaves me in a bit of a bind because I may be going to Toronto the next day or that day. Well, in either case, I am buying a ticket. This leads into a string of sweet concerts. R.E.M November 11th, and then, Tragically Hip Novemeber 28th...Oh the grandness of entertainment! So I am buying tickets to maybe all three tomorrow, who knows!

Today after work I am going to look at the place in the Market. I would go into detail about why I didn't see it yesterday, but it is a long, stupid story. In fact, the other place I went to see last night, I just looked at it and kept on walking, it was that disturbing. You know its bad when it is the only place on the block that stands out like a cloud on a clear summer (now fall) day.

Oh, and one more thing, work threw me a bit of a surprise birthday party yesterday afternoon, that was really awesome! Fantastic people around here.

Until some other time, Steve signing out...

Working Magic...

Through the miricle of time and coaxing, I got new pictures up. Enjoy.

http://photos.yahoo.com/hilchies

I Wonder What Today is? Hmmm...21st you say?

Well, Happy Birthday to me! I am officially 21.

Last night was fantastic. About 20 people showed up for some good entertainment. I would share the entertainment, via digtal photographs, however, my crappy computer at work won't let me install the camera drivers, dang. So I will try to get the pictures up before Friday. Far too disappointing! You get some good stuff and you cannot share it with the world.

Anyway, better get back to work, just wanted to share the news to those of you who are oblivious to the outside world, haha!

Birthday Tomorrow...Celebrate Good Times

Yup, 21 tomorrow. Birthdays are a time to reflect back your...ugh...heck, it is a time to have some unadultered entertainment. Tonight, a bunch of EC students are going to the Heart and Crown in the Market. I hear that place is pretty good, so I cannot wait. And the word on the street is that they are planning something b-day related, sweet! I am bringing my camera and hope to get some incriminating photos...hopefully not of me this time...*cough* haha.

Tomorrow, to celebrate, I am going to go look at a few places to live for October. One on the Parkdale Road in the west (a little reminded of home...oh goody), and one on St.Patrick Street in the market. Both sound pretty good for the time being. The one that is further away (Parkdale) is quite a bit cheaper, but not in the area I want to be in. The one in the Market is in a great local, but kind of expensive (can anyone say $625 a month....?). I guess tomorrow when I see them I will know, because that is always the deciding factor. As long as it has a bed, furniture, and will allow me to pay for 3 months only, that is fine by me.

Anyway, I should get some work done...going to be a long day. Will post after the chaos :).

Post Question of the Day: What's the deal with me having a crappy monitor at work? Boo to that...!

Little Correction...

I posted on a comment my cell number, anyway, that number is incorrect, opps. It is 613-808-1075. I was told that 1705 calls another person named Steve who "didn't know anyone had his number", haha. Good times.

Canada Wins and the Weekend is Here.

Wow, it has been a long time since I last posted. I have been so busy and unable to even visit the site. Wednesday night was an awesome time for Canadian Hockey. That night Mike, John, and I went out to Don Cherry's to watch the game, have some wings, and enjoy refreshments. The place was noisy and packed. It was finally a place where you could get good wings around here. Although the price was a little over the top (2 pounds for 16 bucks...ugh) but they were really great anyway. It was good to see what is more than likely the last major hockey game we will see in a while. A damn shame. What is wrong with the owners and players? It is about the game, not the business. Of course, what hasen't become a business these days? The corporate world seems to be taking over everything. Even as a business student it is a tragedy (Although, not a business student at heart, as many of you know). But the regular person can't do anything except enjoy the uncomfortable ride.

Work has become a hectic beast. It is really interesting stuff, but it never ends. Expenditure review, accountability, PAA, TBS, EC, SPA, EEPF, ERIS...daily terms that I am still trying to get wrapped around my head. But, with my new love for Swiss Chocolate Almond Coffee, it will be easy:)

Weekend is upon us again. And another weekend of searching for a place to live. I am not having much luck. I have people looking out. I picked up a copy of the Citizen yesterday and have been looking through it for any postings that would suit my requirements.

How about a posting day question from here on in to get people to leave comments.

Posting Question: 1)What are your plans for the weekend? 2)What do you feel will be the state of Canadian Hockey post "lock-out"?

Slow Caffeine Addiction

Yikes, talk about addictive stuff. The coffee shop downstairs in my building has a total of about 20 different kinds of coffee ranging from Columbian to Chocolate Raspberry, all taunting " Try ME:)". I am on the Mocha Java style blend...uhhh...stuff now. Fabulous. Sure it is $1.30 a coffee, but hey, it is a lot bigger than a Tim's. But I got my chocolate in the form of a Snickers, soI am good to go! I need to stay awake trying to learn all this new information coming at me. Once I start doing it, it will be fine, however, before then, I will be slowly sucked into this wonderful drug called caffeine.

PS: If I haven't gotten back to you if you have e-mailed me to my Hotmail account, sorry. It is coming soon, I have read them:).

123mm of rain? Goodness...oh...TGIF!

Yello...

Not much time today except to say: TGIF. Monday is when things get into full swing at work, until then I am free again. My paper is done and passed in, by the way. Jeff was a good little fella and signed off on it with 4 hours to go! Wicked stuff.

Last night was awesome. EC students are great. Today was an orientation for all the students. Well...there was 2 orientations and we were the smaller, yet closer, group. There are people from all over the country I am working with...Vancouver, Red Deer Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Me...duh, and Newfoundland...strangely no people from Manitoba...odd.

Well, pics are updated re: my office. photos.yahoo.com/hilchies .

Enjoy your weekend all, and email me at stephen.hilchie@ec.gc.ca or hilchies@gmail.com during the week as Hotmail is blocked by Environment Canada, haha.

Go Away Rain...

Heavy rain all day long. This morning it was bad. This afternoon it is worse. I guess the bus system has to be relied upon to get me home today. This morning I walked as I do everyday, and I have discovered that maybe I should take the bus more often. I am getting some temporary tickets after work as I just discovered that there is a ticket counter somewhere in the basement of this building. Kind of neat. So that's what is going on. I have about 2 minutes before more actual work begins, so this is what I am doing.

My report is done on my side. Jeff is going to look over it and tell me how bad it is then I will send it in tomorrow morning. Good times for sure. I had to spice up the situation at the EMS to make it sound more trouble-some than it actually is. Whatver, its done. Just not officially.

After work today a bunch of us are supposably going out for wings and beer. Kind of a 'meet and greet' thing. I am trying to get a hold of Mike (my SPA or Student Program Assistant...something to that effect) so he can tell John and I where to go. Like an eel that Mike fella is.

Saturday is going to be a day of getting stuff done that has been getting ignored while I have been house ridden trying to get my report done. For example, finding a new place to live...yuck...

Well, must get going. Until next time. Hopefully it has stopped raining by then...

To the left water, to the right hills...fantastic

Yeah...I have a sweet office at work, haha. It is quite amazing, actually. People were asking me all day how I pulled to get something like that from a co-op student. I think I am going to bring my digi-cam tomorrow and take some pics...hopefully it is nice. I could see the rain squalls coming in from 100 kms away, kinda neat:P This is going to be short because I need to pick up some grocheries before it gets dark and the drug dealers and pimps come out...hmmm...:-D Actually, another reason is my paper...yikes...coming up too soon.

I have a really cool teammate. John Kenney is his name. He looks like he is 15, but actually 30...it was quite surprising. Originally a Nova Scotianer (With double majors from Dal. ) Now he is a graduate student from Concordia. Really funny fella. Thursday night is going to be a bit of a small pub crawl with the new students. So maybe Chuck's vision will come true, after all, it is going on in the Hull/Gatineau side, haha.

Take care all, I will get pics, don't worry!

Labour Day

Oh, God bless the non-creative aspect of that title. It is a little overcast today, but still quite warm. Tomorrow I begin work with those wacky Feds. I personally can't wait to start the process. Yesterday I walked from my place to the building. It takes about 25 minutes to get there. It is a massive brick thing that looks like it needs a good Stalingrad to happen around it to make it look astheticly pleasing. However, I could be mistaken about the interior. Hull/Gatineau has this strange feeling about it. It is not just about the fact that everything is in French, but because there is no layout to the streets. They are just everywhere with cars blazing through lights trying to hit you as you cross. Oh well, it keeps your on your heels, I guess...haha. (Sorry no pics yet...but there will be a big update when there is).

This week I will be getting a Cell phone activated...that way people can call me anytime they want instead of the situation now. Also, I am working quite hard on my workterm report...currently on page, like, 20. When that is over...man...it will be time to enjoy things.

Friday night I went out for a few drinks and some food with a friend of my sister at an actually good Darcy McGees, ha. Beer is insanely expensive...$5.30 for a pint of Keiths! Oh the humanity of it all! After a great meal, she gave me a tour of the ever-so popular Byward Market at night...oh, I can just imagine the entertainment that place will prove to be! Pubs, Bars, manic crazies everywhere...good times.

I have also been hanging out with my Aunt and Uncle (Dale and Barb) and cousin, Joesph, the last couple days. Barb took me for some grocheries that didn't cost 50 bucks a bananna. And even fed me a few meals! Go figure. Joe is quite the rabid Halo fan, so everytime I go over, we have to play that game, haha. Such a waste of time.

Hopefully there are still some people reading these things. I haven't been able to update as much as I want because I have no internet access at 'home', but that's okay, it makes people read!

Oh, another thing, I made it to the Rideau Centre and Ottawa University the other day. The Rideau Centre has quite a lot of crap in it, but it is still really neat. Much better than that Sparks Street Mall...yikes...disappointment all around. Ottawa U is really nice. I am going to go back sometime this week and do some more exploring...after all, soon have to find a new place to stay...my time at the Condo is running out...3 weeks left!

Take care all! I will update in a couple of days. In the meantime, remember to comment and post...I want to have an interactive little place here;) Enjoy your Labour Day!

Full Day Two

Not much to report. I was down to the Rideau Centre today. Lots of shops but not enough money. I may have to get a new Cell phone. By the looks of it because it was not a Bell, Telus, or Rogers phone, it is impossible ??? Whatever. Ottawa U is really something, too. Today it was 29 and wicked warm. It is a different heat...not much Humidity...all warmth. I will post something bigger later. Enjoy your evening, all.

The day after the invasion...

Hey all! Yes I have survived the great journey! I am writing to you from quite the large internet cafe on Bank Street in downtown Ottawa. I arrived yesterday evening around 7:00 at my current residence. Everything came through without the slightest hitch. Sure the plane "Ultimate Chocolate Cookies" sucked, but that's okay.

When I got to my new home, I checked things out. There was a bottle of water and a frozen tv dinner in the fridge (my first Ottawa meal, thank you very much), a can of spaghetti sauce in the cupboard, two large chairs in the living room, a tv with a built in DVD player on the ground in the corner with a dead clock on top, a large bedroom with two fair size beds, a personal walk in closet and washroom, a washer and drier, and another washroom. Needless to say, as you will see in my pictures, there is not very much furnature in my room. But, that is what I was told before I took the Condo, so no big surprise. The place is not that big, but not that small. It is quite cozy. Now all I need is a plant friend and I will be set. Today I really should get some milk and juice. You cannot live off bottled water and Subway subs forever, unfortunatly.

Today I took off around 10am for a walk around my general area of the city. It is a very clean place and easy to get around. I made my way up to the government buildings on "the Hill" and took several pictures of the view. Lots of touristy folks wandering around like myself. So I walked around all the buildings, not wanting to wait in the projected "hour and a half" of waiting in line for a tour. Screw that. Instead I just offered to take peoples photographs in front of "the Flame". Great entertainment. After that, I made my way down Wellington Street and passed by the Court House of Canada and all that jazz. So I made my way back to Laurier via Kent, Spark, and Lyon. I shot into a Pharmacy on Spark Street and picked up some Garbage bags and bottled water, haha. Then I continued down Laurier to Subway and purchased some much needed food. When I got back to the condo I was pretty beat...2 hours of walking through busy intersections will do that to you.

When I leave the cafe I will get some other things to help me survive as well as give the managers I am going to be working for a call to see if they want to have a "happy hour" tonight.

In the meantime, check out some of the new pictures up at the website by clicking here. I will be posting again in the next day or two! Take care all!
